NurseBobbi's Home Page Website of Bobbi Kempter Pasternak, MSN, RNC-NIC
IntroductionWelcome to my website! I'm a registered nurse (Alexandria Hospital School of Nursing Class of 1976) who has been active in online vegetarian outreach since 1993 and in Labrador retriever rescue since 2000. I manage VRG-NEWS, an e-mail newsletter with over 12,000 subscribers, for The Vegetarian Resource Group, a nonprofit educational organization and have been involved in establishing vegetarian forums on several of the major online services. I'm an adoption coordinator and foster for Lab Rescue of the LRCP, Inc, an all-volunteer, nonprofit organization that rescues, fosters, and adopts out Labrador Retrievers. NurseBobbi is my online nickname. My friends Brian and Katy Johnson have called me NurseBobbi since the birth of their son, Turner, in 1991. My nursing specialty is neonatology (care of the newborn), and I took care of Turner during his newborn hospital stay. In 1994, I attended his brother Evan's delivery. I've specialized in neonatology since graduating from nursing school in 1976 and hold a specialty certification in neonatal intensive care. (Hence, the "C-NIC" in my title.) I currently work part-time in the NICU of a community hospital in Northern Virginia and am a Regional Trainer for the Neonatal Resuscitation Program. I also teach part-time for the Fairfax County Public School system's Office of Adult and Community Education. I teach Medical Terminology with Anatomy Parts I & II. I earned my master's degree in nursing from Michigan State University in 2008. I'm a native of the Virginia suburbs of Washington, D.C., and still live here with my husband, Dave Pasternak, and our canine companions, Sam, Bonnie and Lucy. Sam, Bonnie and Lucy, all adopted from Lab Rescue of the LRCP, Inc., are the greatest dogs on the planet. Since May of 2004, our pack has also included Lucy Punk (aka Punky), a Lab Rescue foster dog. (She hasn't found a forever home because she's diabetic.) Always with us in spirit are Levi, the greatest boy-dog who ever lived and Toni, the greatest girl-dog who ever lived. We were fortunate to share our lives with Levi for over 12 years and with Toni for almost 12 years.
